Description

BMW E36 E46 Trailing Arm Bushes

These trailing arm bushes replace the rubber bushes of the rear trailing arms of the BMW E36, E46 and Z4. Instead of rubber, there is a uniball, a spherical bearing in a steel housing. As a result, the trailing arm can no longer shift back and forth in soft rubber and the rear axle stays in place.

These BMWs are a popular basis for drift and track cars. If you use more grip and power, you will notice that the original rubber bushes let the rear axle steer along. With these bushes the car drives more stably and you have more control, both on straights and in corners.

Two uniball bushes for the rear trailing arm of a BMW

The trailing arm connects the rear suspension to the body and helps determine the position of the rear wheels when the car is under load. Every millimetre that a rubber bush gives changes the position of the wheel. You notice this especially when initiating a drift and when accelerating hard out of a corner.

Installation and delivery

The old rubber bushes come out of the trailing arm, then these uniball bushes go in. When screwing in the bush, apply thread locker so that it does not work loose. This is a clear instruction from the manufacturer: do not skip that step.

To get to the bushes, you usually remove the trailing arm. Put the car safely on axle stands for this and work with the correct tightening torques. After fitting, have the rear axle alignment checked and adjusted, because a different bush can change the position of the wheels.

You will find more bushes and rubber mounts for the suspension in our suspension bushes category. It also has the bushes for the other control arms of your E36 or E46.

Steel bush housings with spherical bearing for the BMW Z4 rear axle

No more rear axle steering along: a uniball stays put where a rubber bush keeps moving.

Why choose uniball trailing arm bushes?

Rubber bushes are comfortable, but they give. On a drift or track car, that means a rear axle that shifts under load and a car that responds less predictably. Uniball trailing arm bushes keep the arm exactly in place, so you can modulate throttle and steering more precisely. Do expect more vibration and noise in the car than with rubber, though.

Frequently asked questions

Are these bushes made of PU or rubber?

Neither. They are uniball bushes: a spherical bearing in a steel housing.

Which cars do these trailing arm bushes fit?

The BMW E36, the E46 and the Z4.

Is this also suitable for a road car?

It can be, but uniball trailing arm bushes transmit more vibration and noise than rubber. They are mainly intended for sporty use.

How many bushes are included in the delivery?

The product photo shows two bushes. If you are unsure about the number for your car, please contact us before you order.

Why use thread locker?

The bush is screwed in. With thread locker you prevent it from working loose due to vibrations.

Does the car need an alignment afterwards?

We strongly recommend it. After replacing the bushes, the position of the rear wheels may have changed.
