This big brake kit A1 8X from V-Maxx replaces the standard front brakes of the Audi A1 and A1 Sportback with a complete performance brake kit featuring 330 mm two-piece brake discs and 4-piston calipers made of forged aluminium. For a compact car like the A1, that is a substantial step up in braking capacity, and the kit arrives ready to fit with all vehicle-specific adapters.

The A1 is agile and carries a lot of speed through corners, which makes it well suited to track days and spirited driving on winding roads. That is exactly where the original brakes reach their limit: after a few hard stops, the braking power drops. With this V-Maxx kit, the pedal stays firm and the deceleration predictable, even after repeated hard braking.

V-Maxx Autosport is a Dutch manufacturer. The kit has a TÜV certificate according to §19.3 and is therefore approved for use on public roads.

Fitting and delivery

Fit the kit according to the V-Maxx fitting instructions supplied and use the tightening torques stated in them. The kit is only intended for cars with original steering knuckles. Clean the brake kit with mild soap and never with wheel cleaner, as it attacks the aluminium. If you are going to put heavy loads on the A1 on the track, V-Maxx recommends removing the dust seals from the calipers.

As options, we supply V-Maxx Steelflex steel braided brake hoses for the front axle (620 mm, set of 2) with PTFE inner hose and TÜV approval, Ferodo brake fluid (500 ml), a V-Maxx wear indicator set, a different caliper colour (black, blue or yellow at extra cost) and an extra set of Ferodo FDSR216 DS Performance brake pads without TÜV approval. Delivery time: 4 to 7 days.

Does the big brake kit A1 8X fit behind my wheels?

The big brake kit A1 8X requires wheels of at least 17 inch. Before you order, check with the fitment template (WFC) whether there is enough clearance between wheel and caliper; a wheel spacer is sometimes required.

Is the big brake kit A1 8X suitable for a car with more power than standard?

Yes, definitely. An Audi A1 with more power than standard benefits most from this kit: 330 mm discs and 4-piston calipers give more braking power and much less fade. With an officially approved power upgrade the TÜV approval remains valid.

Is it normal for the brake pads to click?

Yes. V-Maxx deliberately gives the pads 1 to 1.5 mm of play in the caliper so they do not seize at high temperatures. As a result, you hear a short click when you change between driving forwards and reversing.

Does V-Maxx also supply a kit for the rear axle?

No, V-Maxx only makes kits for the front axle. About 90% of the braking power comes from the front axle, so that is where a larger brake kit delivers the biggest gain.
