BMW E36 Lightweight Single-Mass Flywheel M50 / M52 (240mm clutch)

This lightweight flywheel for the BMW E36 M50 and M52 replaces the heavy dual-mass flywheel with a single-mass flywheel with far less rotating mass. As a result, the engine revs up and down faster, throttle response becomes more direct and acceleration improves: exactly what you want on a drift or track car where you are constantly working the clutch and throttle.

The flywheel is plug-and-play in combination with the 240 mm clutch from the E36 328i. This large clutch has the most friction surface of all E36 clutches, so in one go you get a lighter and stronger drivetrain.

Good to know: a single-mass flywheel produces slightly more transmission noise and vibration at idle than a dual-mass flywheel. This is normal for a performance flywheel and not a defect.

Fitting and delivery

The gearbox has to come out. Fit the flywheel with new flywheel bolts torqued to the specified value and combine it with a new 240 mm clutch, pressure plate and release bearing. Allow half a day’s work on the lift. The flywheel is supplied to order; delivery time is 4 to 7 days.
