This hydraulic handbrake mounting bracket is a black base plate made of 5 mm steel that lets you fit a hydraulic handbrake firmly on the centre tunnel. The plate sits around the gear lever, places the handbrake next to the gear lever on the passenger side and fits all BMW tunnels, from the E30 to the E90, E92 and E93. No welding is needed: the plate already has the mounting holes.

If you are building a drift or rally car, you want a handbrake that does not flex when you pull it hard. Screwing a loose lever directly onto the thin sheet metal of the tunnel does not work well. This base plate gives the handbrake, and a shifter too if required, a flat and rigid foundation.

Installation and delivery

Remove the centre console and the carpet around the tunnel so that you are working on the bare sheet metal. Place the plate in position next to the gear lever, mark the holes and bolt it down with sturdy bolts, washers and locking nuts. Then fit the hydraulic handbrake on the plate and, if you use one, the shifter.

A hydraulic handbrake mounting bracket that is properly secured stops the lever from wobbling when you give it a hard pull, and stops the tunnel sheet metal from cracking over time. So do not use bolts that are too small, and fit large washers on the underside.

When drilling, watch out for lines and cables under the tunnel. After fitting, connect the brake lines and bleed the system carefully. After the first test drive, check that all bolts are still tight.
