The AST Bolt-in Roll Cage BMW G87 Coupé V4 is a full roll cage for the BMW 2 Series G87 with 2-door coupé bodywork. This Bolt-in G87 Coupé V4 is bolted at six points to foot plates that are welded to the bodyshell, and it reaches you welded and unpainted, divided into sections via connecting sleeves.

The cage is designed and built by AST Roll Cages in Spain, for drivers who want a complete cage that is fitted in sections and can be taken apart again later.

The G87 is a compact, rear-wheel-drive two-door. AST does not offer a convertible version for it. The F87 is the predecessor of the G87 and has its own cage; the two are not interchangeable.

Fitting and delivery

The cage is built to order; the standard delivery time is 15 to 35 working days. AST digitises the bodyshell with laser scanners and designs the cage in 3D, so that it fits your car exactly. Please note: bolt-in does not mean that no welding is required here. The six foot plates are welded to the bodyshell; only the cage itself is then bolted onto those plates. Because the V4 extends into the front section and into the doors, the interior of the G87 has to be stripped extensively. The car is packed with electronics and airbags, so plan the fitting carefully and leave the work to a company that knows this type of car. This cage is intended for track and competition use; check the regulations of your own sporting organisation before you build.

Frequently asked questions

Does a bolt-in cage really require welding?

Yes. With the Bolt-in G87 Coupé V4, the six foot plates are welded to the bodyshell. The cage is then bolted onto those plates, but without welding the foot plates it cannot be fitted.

Does this cage also fit an F87 or a convertible?

No. AST does not offer a convertible version for the G87, and the F87 is the predecessor, with its own cage that is not interchangeable with this G87 version.

What does the V4 have that lighter versions don’t?

The V4 combines door bars and front reinforcement bars to the bulkhead with an extra diagonal brace and a harness bar. That makes it more rigid than the lighter versions and provides a fixed mounting point for the harness.
