The AST Removable Half Roll Cage BMW E87 V2 is a half roll cage for the BMW 1 Series E87 with five-door hatchback bodywork. This removable half cage E87 V2 sits one step above the V1 and is the more heavily equipped level for the E87 within the same range.

The cage is designed and built by AST Roll Cages in Spain for drivers who want more rigidity at the rear of the car without sacrificing the entire interior to a full cage.

Fitting and delivery

The cage is built to order; the standard delivery time is 15 to 35 working days. The four foot plates are welded to the bodyshell, and only then is the cage bolted onto them. Have the welding done by someone who knows how to handle thin sheet steel.

AST scans the bodyshell with laser scanners and designs the cage in 3D, so every tube ends up in exactly the right place. If you mainly use your E87 for track days and drift events, the V2 gives you more rigidity than the base version while the car remains usable. The cage is intended for track and competition use; check your own organiser’s regulations beforehand.

What is the difference from the V1?

The removable half cage E87 V2 is the more heavily equipped level within the same range. The V1 is the entry-level version; both use four bolting points on welded foot plates and can be removed via connecting sleeves.

Does this cage fit an E81 or E82?

No. This cage is designed for the five-door E87. The three-door E81 and the E82 coupé each have their own version at AST with their own dimensions; they are not interchangeable.
