Description
AST Weld-in Roll Cage BMW E30 Coupé AWD V3
The AST Weld-in Roll Cage BMW E30 Coupé AWD V3 is a full roll cage for the BMW E30 with 2-door coupé bodywork. This Weld-in E30 Coupé AWD V3 is built to the dimensions of the all-wheel-drive E30, the 325iX, and does not fit the rear-wheel-drive E30; that is a real difference in the bodyshell, not a detail. The V3 is the V2 with door bars added, so for the first time there is steel between the driver and the door.
The cage is designed and built by AST Roll Cages in Spain, for 325iX drivers who want side protection without going straight to the heaviest specification.
Key benefits
- Door bars provide protection at hip height alongside the driver and front passenger.
- Front bars to the bulkhead are carried over from the V2.
- Closed-off sides make the cabin as a whole more rigid, not just safer.
- Eight welded mounting points in E355 steel, permanently fixed to the bodyshell.
- Only for the AWD bodyshell of the 325iX, custom-scanned and designed in 3D.
- Supplied unpainted with gussets and 3 mm reinforcement plates.
- 71 kg (manufacturer’s figure) for the complete weld-in kit.

Fitting and delivery
The cage is built to order; the standard delivery time is 15 to 35 working days. The door bars make getting in and out tighter, so try out the seat position before everything is permanently welded in. AST digitises the bodyshell with laser scanners and designs the cage in 3D so that it fits your car exactly.
With the addition of door bars, the V3 changes from a frame into a protective cell around the driver.
Why choose this Weld-in E30 Coupé AWD V3 roll cage?
Side impacts are the scenario you have the least control over, both in drifting and on track. The door bars of the V3 absorb that energy before the door hits your hip, and at the same time they make the cabin more torsionally rigid. For many 325iX builders, this is the version where safety and practicality meet best.
Frequently asked questions
How much room is left for getting in?
The door bars run through the door opening at hip height, so you step over the bar a little more than in a standard E30. If you find that too tight, take a look at the version with NASCAR door bars, which gives you more room to get in.
Why can this cage not be fitted in a rear-wheel-drive E30?
The Weld-in E30 Coupé AWD V3 follows the floor and tunnel of the all-wheel-drive E30 (325iX). These differ from the rear-wheel-drive E30, so the welded mounting points and reinforcement plates do not line up there.
