Description
AST Weld-in Roll Cage BMW E36 Compact V1
The AST Weld-in Roll Cage BMW E36 Compact V1 is a full roll cage for the BMW E36 with 3-door Compact bodywork. This Weld-in Compact V1 is the entry-level version of the range: a main hoop with backstays, permanently welded to the bodyshell at 8 points.
The cage is designed and built by AST Roll Cages in Spain, for drivers who want to give their E36 Compact a solid basic structure without going straight for the most extensive version.
Key benefits
- Permanently welded in: the cage is welded to the bodyshell at 8 points and then forms a single unit with the car. For comparison, the multipoint weld-in version uses 10 welded mounting points.
- Main hoop as the backbone: the hoop behind the front seats carries the entire structure.
- Backstays: these connect the main hoop to the rear of the bodyshell.
- Chassis-specific: designed around the 3-door Compact bodyshell of the E36, not a universal template.
- Unpainted weld-in kit: you choose the colour and finish yourself after fitting.
- Logical starting point: this is the foundation on which versions V2 to V5 build.
- Built by AST Roll Cages, a Spanish manufacturer specialising in roll cages.

Fitting and delivery
The cage is built to order; the standard delivery time is 15 to 35 working days. AST digitises the bodyshell with laser scanners and designs the cage in 3D, so it fits your car exactly. Have the welding done by a welder experienced with roll cages, as the 8 welded mounting points must sit cleanly against the panels and most of the interior has to come out of the car for this.
The V1 gives you the main hoop and the backstays, firmly welded in, as a solid starting point for an E36 Compact.
Why choose this Weld-in Compact V1 roll cage?
Anyone getting started in drifting or track days wants a cage that is properly fixed, without filling the entire interior straight away. The Weld-in Compact V1 delivers exactly that: a welded-in basic structure that increases the rigidity of the E36 Compact while still leaving room to get in and out. Because the cage is built to order, it matches the dimensions of this specific chassis.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove this roll cage later?
No. This is a weld-in version that is permanently welded to the bodyshell at 8 points. If you want a cage you can take out, choose a bolt-in or removable version.
What is the difference between V1 and V2?
The Weld-in Compact V1 sticks to the main hoop with backstays. The V2 adds front reinforcement bars, making it the next step in the same range.
What exactly will I receive?
You receive an unpainted weld-in kit in E355 steel with the 3 mm gussets and reinforcement plates, the bolts, washers and nuts, the documentation, the fitting instructions and a sticker set.
What is the delivery time?
