The BC Racing ZX coilover kit GT86 (part number C-89-ZX) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the Toyota GT86 (ZN6) and, according to BC Racing UK, the Subaru BRZ (ZC6), model years 2012 to 2021. The spring rate is 5 kg/mm front and 5 kg/mm rear.

The ZX series brings the DS and the ER together: an upright monotube with dual piston and external reservoir, with 3-way adjustment. BC Racing aims the ZX at competitive track work, long sessions and demanding drifting, and a rear-wheel-drive GT86 is a rewarding base for that.

You set the low-speed compression in 20 clicks, the high-speed compression in 12 clicks and the rebound in 30 clicks. Racing oil with a very high viscosity index and a digressive characteristic complete the package. The springs are 5/5 kg/mm and the ride height is infinitely adjustable via the damper body.

Fitting and delivery

The ZX is vehicle-specific and replaces the original dampers and springs front and rear. We recommend having it fitted by an experienced mechanic and having the wheel alignment done after setting the ride height. Then take your time tuning the three adjustments: one change per session makes it clear what each knob does on the GT86. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. In a drift run or a long track session you want the GT86 to stay predictable, even when the dampers get hot. With the ZX you adjust the response to turn-in and braking separately from the response to kerbs, and the racing oil keeps the damping stable. At 5/5 kg/mm, the spring rate stays the same as that of the BR and DS, so the step up to 3-way lies mainly in the damping.
