Description
BMW E46 Set of Aluminium Differential Bushes
With these aluminium differential bushes you mount the rear differential of the BMW E46 or Z4 firmly in place. The original rubber bushes give way and let the differential move when you get on and off the throttle. Aluminium takes that movement away, so the drive stays direct and predictable.
The set contains all three bushes of the differential mount: the rear bush and the two front bushes. That makes it ideal if you want to sort out the rear of a drift or track car in one go. On a build with a different differential, or one that is under heavier load, a solid mount is also a logical step.

Installation and delivery
To replace the differential bushes, the differential has to come out of the car. Press the old rubber bushes out of the housing and the subframe, then press in the aluminium bushes. Use a press or a suitable bush tool and make sure each bush goes into its housing straight. Thanks to the knurling, the bush then sits firmly in place.
While the differential is out, also check its oil seals and the oil, because you can get to them easily then. It is also a good idea to replace the subframe bushes at the same time, so that the whole rear axle is mounted just as tightly. For that, take a look at the aluminium subframe bushes for the E46. You will find more bushes and mounts in our suspension bushes category.

A differential that no longer moves means a rear end that does exactly what you ask of it.
Why choose these aluminium differential bushes?
Soft or worn differential bushes cause a clunk on load changes and a delayed response to the throttle. On a car with a limited-slip differential and more power, you notice that even more. These aluminium differential bushes hold the differential in place, so the power goes straight to the wheels. The knurled outer surface makes sure they also sit firmly in an older subframe or housing.
Do bear in mind that aluminium passes on more vibration and noise from the drivetrain than rubber. In a drift or track car, that is usually not a problem. For a comfortable daily driver, it is a trade-off you should consider beforehand.

Frequently asked questions
How many aluminium differential bushes are in the set?
Three: one rear differential bush and two front ones.
Which original parts do they replace?
The rear bush replaces OEM 33171093565, the two front bushes replace OEM 33171134910.
Do these aluminium differential bushes also fit a Z4?
Yes. The set is suitable for the BMW E46 and the Z4.
What material are they made of?
PA9 aluminium with high mechanical strength and fatigue strength.
Why is the outer surface knurled?
So that the bush cannot turn in its housing and small differences in size are taken up. That is useful, because differential housings and subframes of this age are not all exactly to size any more.
