Description
AST Weld-in Roll Cage BMW G87 Coupé V4
The AST Weld-in Roll Cage for the BMW G87 Coupé V4 is a full roll cage for the BMW 2 Series G87 with 2-door coupé bodywork. This weld-in G87 Coupé V4 is welded firmly to the bodyshell at eight points and is supplied as an unpainted weld-in kit, meaning loose tubes and plates that are assembled inside your car.
The cage is designed and built by AST Roll Cages in Spain, for drivers who want the most rigid possible connection to the bodyshell and no longer need to remove the cage.
Key benefits
- Eight welded mounting points: the cage is permanently welded to the bodyshell, with no bolts in the load path.
- More rigid than a bolt-in: a fully welded joint allows no play, whereas bolts can.
- V4 specification: door bars, front reinforcement bars to the bulkhead, plus an extra diagonal brace and harness bar.
- Gussets: included to spread the forces evenly into the bodyshell.
- E355 steel: main hoop 45 mm, rest of the structure 40 mm.
- Lower weight: 71 kg according to the manufacturer, noticeably less than the bolt-in version.
- Fit from a laser scan: the G87 bodyshell was digitised before the tubes were bent.
Suitable for
BMW 2 Series G87, 2-door coupé
- BMW 2 Series G87 Coupé, the current M2 from 2023
- Type: full roll cage, version V4, weld-in (permanent)

The G87 is a compact rear-wheel-drive two-door. AST does not offer a convertible version for this model. The F87 is its predecessor and has its own cage, which is not interchangeable with this one.

Fitting and delivery
The cage is built to order; the standard delivery time is 15 to 35 working days. AST digitises the bodyshell with laser scanners and designs the cage in 3D, so that it fits your car exactly. A weld-in cage belongs in the hands of a welder who knows how to handle thin body panels: the eight points are fixed permanently. To do this, the interior of the G87 has to be stripped out extensively, and this car is packed with electronics and airbags. So plan the fitting carefully, including disconnecting the battery and protecting the wiring. This cage is intended for track and competition use; check the regulations of your own motorsport governing body beforehand.
Eight welded mounting points, door bars, diagonal brace and harness bar: the V4 turns the G87 into a serious track car in one go.
Why choose this weld-in G87 Coupé V4 roll cage?
A welded-in cage becomes part of the bodyshell rather than a structure that sits on top of it. That makes a difference in both rigidity and weight: 71 kg compared with 210 kg for the bolt-in version. The V4 is also the level most drivers end up choosing, because it combines door protection and a harness bar without going straight to the complete set of bars of a V5.
Frequently asked questions
Can I remove a weld-in cage later?
Not without damaging the bodyshell. The weld-in G87 Coupé V4 is welded to the car at eight points and is intended as a permanent solution. If you want a cage that can come out again, look at a bolt-in or a removable version.
Does this cage also fit an F87 or a convertible?
No. AST does not offer a convertible version for the G87, and the F87 is the predecessor, with its own cage that does not fit the G87.
Why does this cage weigh so much less than the bolt-in?
A weld-in kit does away with the heavy connecting sleeves and their flanges. AST quotes 71 kg for this weld-in version, compared with 210 kg for the bolt-in version.
