The BC Racing DS coilover kit 1M Coupe (part number I-21-DS-DA) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 1M Coupe (E82, wide body, 3.0 turbo), model years 2011 to 2012. The spring rate is 6.5 kg/mm front and 12 kg/mm rear.

For the 1M Coupe, the E82 with the wide body and 3.0 turbo engine, BC Racing also supplies the track-focused DS series. This kit is intended for a 1M that regularly goes on track and is then simply driven home afterwards.

At the heart of the DS is a monotube damper with a digressive piston in a satin chrome damper body, which damps more firmly at slow movements from 0 to 50 mm/s. You adjust the damping in 30 clicks, you set the ride height independently of the spring preload, and the springs are 6.5 kg/mm front and 12 kg/mm rear.

Fitting and delivery

This vehicle-specific kit replaces the original dampers and springs. We recommend having it fitted by an experienced mechanic. On some cars the pillowball top mount at the front requires a small modification to the upper mounting; if in doubt, contact us. After lowering, a wheel alignment is required, because camber and toe change as well. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. If BC Racing is temporarily out of stock, you can still order and we will let you know the delivery date.

Is the BC Racing DS coilover kit I-21 suitable for other BMW E82 Coupes?

No, BC Racing only releases this kit for the 1M Coupe with the wide body and 3.0 turbo engine from 2011 and 2012. For the other E82 Coupes and for the E81 and E87 there are the I-11 kits, including a DS version (I-11-DS-DA).

What is the difference between the BC Racing DS and RM coilover kits for the BMW 1M Coupe?

The DS is track-focused but works well on the road; the RM is made for track days, hill climbs and tarmac rally. The DS coilover kit 1M Coupe has springs of 6.5/12 kg/mm, the RM 7/12 kg/mm, and the RM uses fully synthetic oil. Please note: BC Racing wants the RM to receive periodic greasing and sees it less as a road kit.

Is noise from the BC Racing DS coilover kit on the 1M Coupe covered by the warranty?

No, noise that arises from track use is not covered by the warranty. BC Racing gives a 1 year warranty on manufacturing defects, and the kit comes with a warranty card with serial number.
