The BC Racing ZR coilover kit E36 (part number I-01-ZR) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 3 Series E36 Sedan, Coupe, Convertible and Touring, model years 1992 to 1998. The spring rate is 10 kg/mm front and 12 kg/mm rear.

It is BC Racing’s kit for competitive motorsport, fitted with camber/caster top mounts. Here, everything revolves around adjustability and consistent performance under race conditions.

The dampers have a dual piston and an external reservoir connected via braided steel lines. The reservoir can be mounted on the chassis or on the damper body. On MacPherson struts, the damper is of inverted design. The 3-way adjustment consists of 20 clicks of low-speed compression, 12 clicks of high-speed compression and 30 clicks of rebound.

The spring rate is 10/12 kg/mm. You adjust the ride height completely independently of the spring preload, so you can set the E36 at exactly the desired height without changing the preload of the springs.

Fitting and delivery

When fitting, also plan the position of the external reservoirs: on the chassis or on the damper body. Make sure the lines are clear and cannot chafe anywhere. Then have the wheel alignment and the camber and caster settings done by a specialist. BC Racing advises periodic greasing for the ZR series and recommends it less for road use than the BR, DS, ER or ZX. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. With the ZR, you no longer set up an E36 by feel alone, but per click, per axle and per circuit.
