The BC Racing ZR coilover kit S13 (part number D-12-ZR) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the Nissan Silvia, 180SX, 200SX and 240SX on the S13 platform, model years 1989 to 1994. The spring rate is 6 kg/mm front and 4 kg/mm rear.

The ZR is BC Racing’s competition kit, made for competitive motorsport. It is intended for drivers who want to decide every setting themselves and need dampers that keep performing consistently under tough conditions.

On MacPherson strut axles the ZR uses inverted monotube dampers, on double wishbones upright ones. Each damper has a dual piston and an external reservoir connected with braided steel lines. You place that reservoir on the chassis or on the damper body, whichever you prefer, so you can fit it wherever there is room in your S13.

The spring rate is 6/4 kg/mm. The ZR is 3-way adjustable: 20 clicks of low-speed compression, 12 clicks of high-speed compression and 30 clicks of rebound. According to BC Racing, the kit also fits the A31.

Fitting and delivery

The kit replaces the original struts and dampers all round. We recommend having it fitted by an experienced mechanic, and decide beforehand where to place the reservoirs: on the chassis you keep unsprung weight low, on the damper body fitting is simpler. After setting the ride height, always have the wheel alignment checked, because camber and toe change as well. BC Racing advises periodic greasing of the ZR series and recommends it less for road use than the BR, DS, ER or ZX. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. With the ZR you adjust the damping of your S13 in three parts: 20 clicks of low-speed compression, 12 clicks of high-speed compression and 30 clicks of rebound.
