Description
BMW E36 3 Series Sedan/Coupe/Convertible/Touring inverted (92-98) BC Racing RM coilover kit 6/8 kg/mm
The BC Racing RM coilover kit E36 (part number I-01-RM-MA) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 3 Series E36 Sedan, Coupe, Convertible and Touring, model years 1992 to 1998. The spring rate is 6 kg/mm front and 8 kg/mm rear.
This kit is intended for cars that are regularly used on track days, in hill climbs or in tarmac rallies. On MacPherson struts, such as at the front of the E36, the RM series uses an inverted monotube damper. On suspensions that are not MacPherson, BC Racing works with an upright monotube.
What sets the RM series apart is the combination of a digressive piston and fully synthetic oil with a very high viscosity index. As a result, the damping stays stable when the dampers are properly warm after a few sessions, so the car keeps its character from the first lap to the last.
The spring rate is 6/8 kg/mm and you adjust the damping in 30 clicks. The ride height is infinitely adjustable via the damper body.
Key benefits
- Inverted monotube: on the MacPherson struts for an inverted damper construction, typical of the RM series.
- Digressive piston: firm damping during slow body movements, more supple during fast wheel movements.
- Fully synthetic oil: very high viscosity index, so consistent damping when things get hot.
- 30-click adjustable: you set compression and rebound together, per damper.
- Pillowball top mounts or camber plates at the front: rubber or the original mounting at the rear.
- Spring rate 6/8 kg/mm: suited to the E36 Sedan, Coupe, Convertible and Touring.
- Made for heavy use: track days, hill climbs and tarmac rally.
- Rebuildable: the dampers can be rebuilt instead of replaced.

Fitting and delivery
The RM kit replaces the original dampers and springs front and rear. After setting the ride height, a wheel alignment is required, especially if you use the camber plates to adjust the camber. BC Racing advises periodic greasing for the RM series and recommends it less for road use than the BR, DS, ER or ZX. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. If BC Racing temporarily has the kit out of stock, you can still order and we will keep you informed of the delivery date.
The RM series is made for the E36 driver who wants to feel the same damping session after session, from the first lap to the last.
Why choose this RM coilover kit E36?
A standard E36 soon feels soft and unsettled on track. With the RM series you get a suspension that is clearly built for intensive use: digressive damping, synthetic oil and pillowball top mounts or camber plates at the front. You tune the car to the circuit, the hill or the rally stage, without the damping changing halfway through the day.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the BC Racing RM and DS for the E36?
The RM coilover kit E36 uses an inverted monotube on the MacPherson struts and fully synthetic oil with a very high viscosity index, and is aimed at track days, hill climbs and tarmac rally. The DS is a track-focused monotube with a satin chrome damper body. Both series work with a digressive piston and 30 clicks.
What does inverted mean in the BC Racing RM series?
With an inverted damper, the damper sits upside down in the strut compared with a conventional construction. BC Racing applies this in the RM series to MacPherson struts, such as at the front of the E36.
Is noise from the dampers covered by the warranty of the BC Racing RM?
No, because the RM is a track-focused series, noise from the dampers is not covered by the warranty. BC Racing does give a 1 year warranty on manufacturing defects.
Does this BC Racing RM coilover kit fit an E36 Touring or Convertible?
Yes. BC Racing releases this kit for all rear-wheel drive E36 versions except the M3 and the Compact: Sedan, Coupe, Convertible and Touring. For the M3 and the Compact, BC Racing supplies separate kits with their own part number.
What is the delivery time of this BC Racing RM coilover kit?
The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. If the kit is temporarily unavailable, you can still order and we will let you know when it arrives.
Delivery outside the European Union: different shipping costs may apply. Don’t worry: we will email you as soon as possible after your order and agree the shipping with you. You are not committed to anything without your consent.
