BMW E36 Dual Caliper Brackets Bolt-On Type for Hydraulic Handbrake

Set of two brackets for an extra brake caliper on each rear wheel of the BMW E36 with rear disc brakes (not for the Compact). Description

BMW E36 Dual Caliper Brackets Bolt-On Type for Hydraulic Handbrake

These E36 dual caliper brackets make room for a second brake caliper on each rear wheel of a BMW E36 with disc brakes. You connect that extra caliper to your hydraulic handbrake, so that the handbrake and the footbrake each have their own caliper.

For a drift car, that is the tidy way to install a hydraulic handbrake. The brackets are bolted onto the control arm; no welder is needed.

Installation and delivery

First remove the rear ABS sensor: this is mandatory for these brackets. Then fit the brackets to the control arm with the supplied bolts. Use thread locker on the bolts and tighten them to the correct torque. Then mount the extra calipers and connect them to the handbrake via a separate line.

With some versions of the control arm, the arm or the bracket has to be ground down slightly. If you have vented discs, the pads of the extra caliper may not contact the disc over the whole surface. According to the manufacturer, this does not affect braking performance. Bleed the circuit thoroughly afterwards.

You will find brackets for other BMW models in the dual caliper brackets category. If you drive an E46, take a look at the dual caliper brackets for the E46.

Two calipers per rear wheel: one for braking, one for the drift.

Why choose these E36 dual caliper brackets?

With a separate caliper for the handbrake, you keep the footbrake working as it should, and the handbrake gets its own direct circuit. The brackets are a bolt-on type, so the conversion is relatively simple and reversible. That makes this a practical solution for every E36 drifter with rear disc brakes.

Frequently asked questions

Do the brackets fit an E36 Compact?

No, the E36 dual caliper brackets are not suitable for the Compact. There is a separate product for that.

Does my car need rear disc brakes?

Yes, the brackets are intended for the E36 with disc brakes on the rear axle.

Does the ABS sensor have to come out?

Yes, the rear ABS sensor must be removed in order to fit the brackets.

Which caliper should I use?

Use a caliper that matches the brake disc fitted to your car. If you are unsure about the right combination, contact us beforehand and we will check it together.

Do I need anything else besides the brackets?

Are the bolts included?

Yes, the bolts for fitting are included. The extra calipers themselves are not.

Do the brake pads contact the whole disc with vented discs?
