Description
AST Weld-in Roll Cage Nissan 280Z S30 Coupé V2
The Weld-in 280Z Coupé V2 is a full roll cage for the Nissan 280Z with the S30 chassis in 3-door coupé bodywork, permanently welded in at eight points. Compared with the V1, reinforcement bars run forward here, all the way to the bulkhead.
On a welded-in cage, this addition counts for more than on a bolt-in version: because there is no bolted joint anywhere in between, the nose of the car is tied directly to the main structure. Built to FIA Appendix J.
Key benefits
- Front reinforcement bars to the bulkhead, an integral part of the welded structure.
- Eight welded mounting points directly on the bodyshell.
- More direct steering response because the nose no longer flexes independently.
- Built to FIA Appendix J, with homologation numbers stated by the manufacturer.
- E355 main hoop at 45 mm, other tubes 40 mm.
- Only 71 kg according to the manufacturer.
- Laser-scanned fit, designed in 3D for each chassis.

Fitting and delivery
Allow 15 to 35 working days for delivery. The kit consists of custom-bent tubes that are fitted into the car and welded in at eight points. Because the front bars run all the way to the bulkhead, the entire dashboard has to come out before any welding can be done. Have this work carried out by a fabricator experienced in safety structures.
Two bars running forward, permanently welded in: from now on, the nose of the S30 pulls its weight.
Why choose this Weld-in 280Z Coupé V2?
The S30 is a long car with a relatively flexible transition between the engine bay and the interior. As long as that area can move, you lose part of every steering correction. By welding the bars in rather than bolting them, the last bit of play disappears as well. Anyone using the car purely for competition gains the most here.
Frequently asked questions
Which FIA homologation does this cage have?
AST Roll Cages lists homologation number 3022 / 3023 / 3084 for the Weld-in 280Z Coupé V2, which according to the manufacturer is valid for the Nissan Datsun Sports Z S30, Nissan Datsun Sports 240Z H(L)S30, Nissan Datsun 280Z and Nissan Datsun 260Z 2+2.
What is the difference from the V1?
The V2 has front reinforcement bars to the bulkhead. The V1 sticks to the main structure without that forward extension.
Can I weld this in myself?
Only if you have experience welding safety structures and the right equipment. For a cage that has to save your life, this is not a learning project.
What is the delivery time?
The standard delivery time for this roll cage is 15 to 35 working days.
