The Weld-in 280Z Coupé V5 is a full roll cage for the Nissan 280Z with the S30 chassis in 3-door coupé bodywork, and the highest specification level in the weld-in range. This version gets the complete set of bars: main hoop, front reinforcement, door bars, diagonals and harness bar.

For anyone building at this level, the cage is no longer an accessory but the starting point for the whole car. Everything that follows, from the seat mounting to the harness mounting points, is attached to it. Built to FIA Appendix J.

Fitting and delivery

Allow 15 to 35 working days for delivery and expect a substantial fitting job. The interior has to come out completely, including the dashboard, headlining and door cards, because the cage is welded to the bare bodyshell at eight points. Plan this as a project week, not an evening job. The tubes arrive bent to size, based on a laser scan of your chassis.

With this version, you are not fitting a cage into a car, you are building a car around a cage.

Why choose this Weld-in 280Z Coupé V5?

This is the top of the weld-in range for the S30. It does not get any more serious than this, and extending it later is not possible without cutting and welding again. If you know the car will remain a competition car for years to come, this lets you go straight to the level you would otherwise work up to in stages.

Which FIA homologation does this cage have?

AST Roll Cages lists homologation number 3022 / 3023 / 3084 for the Weld-in 280Z Coupé V5, which according to the manufacturer is valid for the Nissan Datsun Sports Z S30, Nissan Datsun Sports 240Z H(L)S30, Nissan Datsun 280Z and Nissan Datsun 260Z 2+2. A different engine variant is not automatically covered.

What does the V5 add compared with the V4?

The V5 has the full set of bars. The V4 comes close but lacks some of the additional tubes.

Is there still room for a passenger?

Yes, AST designs the structure so that a second bucket seat fits. The usable space is, however, noticeably tighter than in a standard S30.

Can I choose between X design and V design?

Yes. When ordering, state which shape you want for the rear structure, and AST will build the roll cage in that version. The price is the same for both shapes.
