The BC Racing DS coilover kit E30 45mm (part number I-04-DS-DA) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 3 Series E30 Sedan with 45 mm front struts, model years 1982 to 1991, in the BC Racing weld-in version, which requires welding for fitting. The spring rate is 5.5 kg/mm front and 8 kg/mm rear.

The DS series is the track-focused line from BC Racing. The monotube dampers have a digressive piston that provides extra damping during slow movements between 0 and 50 mm/s: exactly the range in which the body of an E30 leans on turn-in and dives under braking. The satin chrome damper body makes the kit instantly recognisable.

The kit is for E30 Sedans with 45 mm front struts; for cars with 51 mm struts, BC Racing has a separate DS kit. It is a weld-in version, so fitting involves welding, and that belongs with a specialist.

Fitting and delivery

This kit replaces the original dampers and springs and is made specifically for this E30. With this weld-in version, welding is required for fitting; leave that to a specialist. On some cars the pillowball top mount at the front requires a small modification to the upper mounting; if in doubt, contact us. Have the wheel alignment set again as soon as the car is at its ride height, because camber and toe change as well. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. Does the BC Racing DS coilover kit E30 45 mm fit a Coupe, Convertible or Touring?

For this kit, BC Racing only lists the E30 Sedan with 45 mm front struts. For the Touring and the M3 there are separate BC Racing kits; for an E30 Coupe or Convertible, please contact us first and we will find out what fits.

For the BMW E30, should you choose the BC Racing DS or the BR coilover kit?

Choose the DS coilover kit E30 45mm if you often go on track, and the BR if the car is mainly driven on the road. The DS has a digressive piston that damps more firmly during slow body movements, the BR a linear piston. Spring rate (5.5/8 kg/mm), 30 clicks and top mounts are the same on both kits.

Is welding required for the BC Racing DS coilover kit on a BMW E30?
