The BC Racing DS coilover kit E46 True Rear (part number I-31-DS-DH) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 3 Series E46 Sedan, Coupe and Touring with rear-wheel drive, model years 1998 to 2006, in True Rear version. The spring rate is 6 kg/mm front and 5 kg/mm rear.

This kit gives the E46 a track-focused suspension, with a complete strut at the rear as well. The DS series is intended for drivers who regularly take their E46 on track and want more chassis control than an all-round kit offers.

As standard, the spring and the damper at the rear of the E46 are separate from each other. True Rear replaces this with a complete strut in which the spring sits around the damper, so you set the rear height in the same way as the front. The standard DS without True Rear (I-02) keeps the original separate spring and damper at the rear.

The DS has a digressive piston: between 0 and 50 mm/s it damps more firmly, while with fast wheel movements it gives more. You adjust the damping in 30 clicks and the ride height independently of the spring preload, and the dampers have a satin chrome finish. The spring rate is 6/5 kg/mm.

Fitting and delivery

The kit replaces the struts at the front and the separate spring and damper at the rear. Please note: BC Racing specifies that the body shell must be reinforced before fitting a True Rear kit.
