This big brake kit Mini R53 from V-Maxx is a complete performance brake kit for the front axle of the first-generation Mini: the One R50, the Cooper S R53 and the Convertible R52, with 330 mm two-piece brake discs and 4-piston calipers made of forged aluminium.

If you exploit the agility of a Mini on the track or at a track day, you ask a lot of the front brakes. Under repeated hard braking, this V-Maxx kit dissipates the heat quickly: the caliper, bracket and bell are made of aluminium, which conducts heat about 5 times better than steel.

Important with this kit: it only fits versions with M12 wheel bolts. The kit is supplied ready to fit with V-Maxx sport brake pads with TÜV approval and vehicle-specific adapters and has a TÜV certificate according to §19.3. V-Maxx Autosport is a Dutch manufacturer and gives a 2-year warranty.

Fitting and delivery

Fit the big brake kit Mini R53 according to the V-Maxx fitting instructions supplied and observe the tightening torques. The kit is only suitable for cars with original steering knuckles.

Clean the brake kit with a mild soap; wheel cleaner attacks the aluminium and is therefore not suitable. For heavy track use, V-Maxx recommends removing the dust seals from the calipers.

Options: a different caliper colour (red RAL 3020 as standard, black, blue or yellow at extra cost), V-Maxx Steelflex steel braided brake hoses 620 mm (set of 2) with PTFE inner hose and TÜV approval, Ferodo brake fluid (500 ml), a V-Maxx wear indicator set and an extra set of Ferodo FDSR216 DS Performance brake pads (without TÜV approval). Delivery time: 4 to 7 days.

This kit (20 MN330 01) is for the One R50, the Cooper S R53 and the Convertible R52 up to 125 kW with M12 wheel bolts, not for Works / JCW. For the R55, R56, R57, R58 and R59 and for the Works / JCW versions of the R52 and R53, each with M14 wheel bolts, V-Maxx has the kit 20 MN330 02.

Does the big brake kit Mini R53 fit behind my wheels?

The big brake kit Mini R53 requires wheels of at least 17 inch. Always check the clearance with the fitment template (WFC); some wheels require a wheel spacer.

Is the big brake kit Mini R53 suitable for a car with more power than standard?

Yes, definitely. A Mini R53 with more power than standard benefits most from this kit: 330 mm discs and 4-piston calipers give more braking power and much less fade. The kW limits in the application list refer to the original factory output, and with an officially approved power upgrade the TÜV approval remains valid.

Is it normal for the brake pads to click?

Yes. The pads deliberately have 1 to 1.5 mm of play so that they do not seize at high temperatures. As a result, you hear a short click when you change between driving forwards and reversing.
