The BC Racing DS coilover kit E36 (part number I-01-DS-DA) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 3 Series E36 Sedan, Coupe, Convertible and Touring, model years 1992 to 1998. The spring rate is 6 kg/mm front and 8 kg/mm rear.

It is the track-focused choice within the BC Racing range. The DS series builds on BC Racing’s monotube basis, but gets a digressive piston. This gives extra damping force during slow movements from 0 to 50 mm/s, exactly the range in which the body rolls, dives and squats.

For an E36 used on track days or for drifting, that means a car that stays flat and calm during weight transfer, while the wheels can follow fast bumps and kerbs well. The satin chrome damper body also makes the kit instantly recognisable.

The spring rate is 6/8 kg/mm and you adjust the damping in 30 clicks. You set the ride height via the damper body, independently of the spring preload.

Fitting and delivery

The kit takes the place of the original dampers and springs, front and rear. After setting the ride height, have the wheel alignment checked, because camber and toe change with the height. This DS coilover kit E36 has a digressive piston that damps more at low speed and is therefore more clearly track-focused; the BR series has a linear piston and is intended for the road with the occasional track day. Both series have 30 clicks and a ride height that is set independently of the spring preload.

Can you also drive on the road with the BC Racing DS for the E36?

Yes, you can, but the kit has a track-focused setup. If you mainly drive on the road, the BR series is better suited to everyday use.

Can you have the dampers of the BC Racing DS rebuilt later?

Yes, the DS dampers are rebuildable. After a few seasons of track work, you have them rebuilt instead of buying a new kit.

Does this BC Racing DS coilover kit fit an E36 Touring or Convertible?

Yes. BC Racing releases this kit for all rear-wheel drive E36 versions except the M3 and the Compact: Sedan, Coupe, Convertible and Touring. For the M3 and the Compact, BC Racing supplies separate kits with their own part number.
