Description

BMW E36 3 Series Compact inverted (93-00) BC Racing RM coilover kit 6/6 or 6/8 kg/mm

The BC Racing RM coilover kit E36 Compact (part number I-25-RM-MA) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 3 Series E36 Compact (E36/5), model years 1993 to 2000. You choose the spring rate when ordering: 6/6 or 6/8 kg/mm front/rear.

It is BC Racing’s inverted kit. The RM series is made for drivers who use their Compact on track days, in hill climbs or in tarmac rallying and want a stiffer front strut than with the BR or DS series.

On the MacPherson front axle, BC Racing uses an inverted monotube damper. The wide damper body sits at the top and the piston rod at the bottom, which makes the strut stiffer against lateral forces in corners. On the rear axle, which does not have a MacPherson layout, there is an upright monotube with a linear piston. This is the standard version: a separate spring and a separate damper remain at the rear.

You set the damping in 30 clicks, compression and rebound at the same time. BC Racing supplies the RM for the Compact in two variants: the dampers and front springs are the same, only the rear springs differ. With 6/6 kg/mm you choose the more compliant rear end, with 6/8 kg/mm a stiffer rear end for those who want more rotation and less rear movement.

Key benefits

  • Inverted front struts: stiffer against bending forces under high cornering loads.
  • Digressive damping: plenty of control over roll and dive, compliant over fast bumps.
  • 30-click adjustment: one knob per damper for compression and rebound together.
  • Fully synthetic oil: with an ultra-high viscosity index, so the damping stays consistent as it warms up.
  • Camber plates as standard: supplied directly with suitable kits.
  • Spring rate of your choice: 6/6 kg/mm for a more compliant rear end or 6/8 kg/mm for a directly responding rear end.
  • Rebuildable: the dampers can be rebuilt.

Fitting and delivery

At the front you replace the complete struts, at the rear the damper and the spring. After setting the ride height, check that the tyres do not touch anything at full steering lock and full bump travel. Then have the Compact’s wheel alignment done, especially if you use the camber plates. With the stiffer rear springs of the 6/8 version, it reacts more sensitively to incorrect alignment. BC Racing advises periodic greasing of the RM series and recommends it less for road use than the BR, DS, ER or ZX. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. If BC Racing is temporarily out of the kit, you can still order and we will keep you informed.

With inverted front struts and digressive damping, you turn a Compact into a serious track day car, without the complexity of external reservoirs.

Why choose this RM coilover kit E36 Compact?

Because it sits exactly between the BR and DS kits and the reservoir kits. You get the stiffer inverted front strut and digressive damping, but keep things simple with one adjustment knob per damper. With 6/6 kg/mm it is the more compliant of the two variants, which is pleasant if you also drive on bumpy circuits. If you mainly use the Compact on track or for drifting and want a tighter rear end, choose 6/8 kg/mm: the harder rear springs limit rear squat under acceleration.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the BC Racing RM 6/6 and 6/8 for the E36 Compact?

The dampers, the front springs and the part number are the same; only the rear springs differ. The RM coilover kit E36 Compact has 6 kg/mm at the front and, at your choice, 6 or 8 kg/mm at the rear. With 6 kg/mm the rear stays more compliant and is more forgiving on bumpy circuits, with 8 kg/mm it becomes stiffer and the car turns in more eagerly. If in doubt, contact us and we will help you choose the right spring rate.

What is the difference between the BC Racing RM and DS for the E36 Compact?

The RM has an inverted damper at the front, which makes the strut stiffer, plus fully synthetic oil and camber plates as standard on suitable kits. Both use a digressive piston and 30-click adjustment.

Is there also a BC Racing RM True Rear version for the E36 Compact?

Yes, there is also an RM True Rear version for the E36 Compact. With True Rear, the rear becomes a complete strut with the spring around the damper, instead of a separate spring and separate damper. We offer that version as the RM True Rear kit for the E36 Compact.

What is the delivery time of this BC Racing RM coilover kit?

The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. If it is temporarily sold out there, you can still order and we will let you know when it arrives.

Delivery outside the European Union: different shipping costs may apply. Don’t worry: we will email you as soon as possible after your order and agree the shipping with you. You are not committed to anything without your consent.
