The BC Racing RM coilover kit E36 Compact True Rear (part number I-79-RM-MA) is a coilover kit adjustable in height and damping, also simply called a coilover, for the BMW 3 Series E36 Compact (E36/5), model years 1994 to 2000, in True Rear version. The spring rate is 6 kg/mm front and 5 kg/mm rear.

The kit is intended for drivers who use their Compact seriously on track days, in hill climbs or in tarmac rallying. From the factory, and also with the standard RM kit, the Compact has a separate spring and a separate damper at the rear, mounted apart from each other in the suspension. With True Rear, these are replaced by a complete coilover strut, with the spring around the damper.

The RM series is BC Racing’s inverted range: the MacPherson front struts have an inverted monotube. The damping is digressive and the dampers are filled with fully synthetic oil with a very high viscosity index.

The spring rate of this True Rear kit is 6/5 kg/mm and you set the damping in 30 clicks, compression and rebound together. The ride height is infinitely adjustable via the damper body, and thanks to the True Rear design this is now also possible at the rear, directly on the strut.

Fitting and delivery

At the front you replace the struts; at the rear the separate spring and damper are removed and replaced by a coilover strut. Please note: BC Racing requires the body shell to be reinforced before fitting a True Rear kit. BC Racing advises periodic greasing of the RM series and recommends it less for road use than the BR, DS, ER or ZX. We recommend having it fitted by an experienced mechanic and, after setting the height, having the wheel alignment redone, because camber and toe change as well. The delivery time is 1 to 2 weeks as long as the manufacturer has stock. If the kit is temporarily out of stock, you can still order and we will keep you informed.
