Description
Rear Strut Brace BMW E36
This E36 rear strut bar connects the two rear strut towers to each other. As a result, the body at the rear can twist less when you throw the car hard through a corner or into a drift. The brace fits the E36 coupé, saloon and Touring.
For drifters, club racers and anyone who has given their E36 stiffer suspension, the rear is often the point where the car becomes unsettled. A steel brace between the towers makes that rear end more predictable and gives you more confidence on turn-in.

Installation and delivery
The brace is fixed to the top of the rear strut towers, with the mounting plates over the shock absorber mounts. No welding is needed: the plates have pressed holes that fit over the mounting points. Make sure you can reach the top of the towers properly and tighten the nuts to the correct torque.
After the first few kilometres, check that everything is still secure. At the same time, check the condition of the towers themselves: on older E36s with high mileage, the panel there is sometimes already weakened.
You will find more braces for the front and rear axle in our strut braces category. If you drive a Compact, choose the rear strut brace for the BMW E36 Compact.

A stiff rear end starts with two towers that work together, not two towers that each go their own way.
Why choose this E36 rear strut bar?
This E36 rear strut bar does exactly what it is meant to do, without any fuss. The flat oval profile of 3 mm thick steel is sturdy, the plates are precisely cut and bent to size, and every brace is welded in a fixed jig. It has proven itself in drifting and rallying, and you notice that on the road and on the track too.
Frequently asked questions
Does the E36 rear strut bar fit my Compact?
No. The Compact has a different rear end. A separate rear strut brace is available for it.
Does this brace fit an E36 Touring?
Yes, the E36 rear strut bar is suitable for the coupé, saloon and Touring.
Do I need to weld or drill anything?
No welding is needed. The plates with pressed holes are fixed to the mounts of the rear strut towers.
How heavy is the brace?
The E36 rear strut bar weighs 1.84 kg, including the welded mounting plates.
What will I notice from a rear strut brace?
The rear end responds more directly and calmly, especially when changing direction quickly, with stiffer suspension and when drifting.
Is a rear brace also worthwhile on a road car?
Yes. A daily-driven E36 also benefits from a stiffer rear end, especially if it already has sportier shock absorbers or wider tyres. The brace is so light that you hardly notice the extra weight.
